a CTK Thanks to Day 4 crew

Hey, there –

Have you caught any of the new TV shows this season?  One is especially fun to watch – I think it is Ordinary Family – the story of (you guessed it) an ordinary family who is in a plane accident, survive and come out of it with extraordinary powers.  They are ordinary people doing extraordinary things = modern heroes.

Heroes give instead of take – they act instead of talk (or stay in bed on Saturday mornings).  They step forward (or up a ladder) and do the hard and unseen jobs…Give the best of themselves (even when they think that they have no skills) measuring their own success not by wealth or comfort, but by the lives they touch (like Annie’s).

Our Habitat crews – you – are ordinary people….doing extraordinary things.

You are our heroes and those of CTK…You are so appreciated.

We remember you in our prayers -

a CTK Habitat thanks to Day 3 crew

Hey, there -

I had a conversation with a friend recently about a relationship that did not seem (to her friends) to  be a positive one for her.  And it went like this:

She -  “He loves me”

Me – “How do you know?”

She – “He tells me every day”

Me – “but if he didn’t tell you, how would you know”.  And she thought for a while and then said “I guess I wouldn’t – he never does anything that makes me FEEL like he loves me”  And her eyes filled with tears.

We know that God loves us – He told us so and He gave us his Son to die for us  so that we may live.  But, to be honest with you,  sometimes when everything seems to be going wrong and you are hurting, it may be hard to feel God’s love.  And then unexpectedly someone or a friend does something to help, or gives support and whoop – there is it!  We feel God’s Love through and because of someone else.  After all, He did say “I am the vine – you are the branches”.  We are and can be the transmitters of His love to others.

Annie had a dream and that was to have a house….and I’m sure that there were a few moments in the quest of this dream that things were not going well.  And she may have felt alone with a goal that just was out of reach.  And then she was accepted to Habitat and the CTK team signed on and she felt His Love…..through you.  He IS the Vine…  YOU are the Branches….with work gloves on.

You are so appreciated and we are so thankful for you - the branches.

Raise the roof - part 2

Another week - but what a week!!!!

Father Frank has been preaching about "How can I give back"? and I have to tell y'all, Stewardship is a funny thing.  Most of the time people sit there and wonder "What time and talents do I have?" that would be of value to someone else.  And then I see a group of sleepy volunteers meet on Saturday AM when it hardly feels like the sun is up - donate a full day (and a weekend day at that) - learn skills and use skills they didn't know they have and in two weeks, have a shelled in house for someone they don't know.  And I think...."I hope our volunteers aren't wondering how they can give back"  because y'all are the poster children.  We have been truly blessed with great volunteers....and I bet y'all thought you were just having a good time!!!

Thank you - you are so appreciated.

Thanks to the "Rise Up" Crew

posted Sep 30, 2010 1:03 PM by CTK Admin

Hey, there -
Wanted to get out a huge thanks to what I call the "Rise Up" crew - the crews who for the first few weeks actually make our house "rise up" from the foundation - Whoo Hoo!!!

For those of you who have not participated in Habitat before, you were able to actually witness the start of a miracle (yes, some miracles don't occur instantaneously)...a plain foundation to a new home for our family.  For those of you who have participated before, I'm sure you recognized that feeling inside of a job well done....I know that everyone felt part of something very, very special.

Fr. Morrow sent us off mentioning, according to St. John that if we can't believe in work that we CAN see, it is hard to believe in the love of God that is harder to see.  This Saturday,  because of your hard work, you WERE the love of God to those who saw your hard work....and that helped those to now believe. Believe that help does come from people they may not know....believe that they are loved....and yes, believe in miracles.

Thank you - please know that you not only participated in something special, but you are special.  Know that we are remembering you in our prayers.

Hey, there -

It wasn't until I worked with the Stewardship Committee of the Cathedral that I truly understood about the different talents people have - and sometimes they have talents different than the ones they think they have!  And that all the talents together make the family whole.  I mean, in the shower I have always sounded like at least Jennifer Hudson, but in reality that just isn't my talent.  And I knew the story about everyone having a purpose, but when you think about all the different kinds of work that are necessary to make any organization work, then the issue of talents makes sense.....

All of the emails y'all send to me are great - many times I get emails that say "I think I want to volunteer but I have no talents" - to which I respond "No, you DO have talents that we can use - we just haven't discovered them yet!".

Look at our house and all of the talents/skills and just plain hard work that have brought the house out of the ground, standing proud.  And, it is all of your talents that have brought our house this far, yes even the ones that you didn't even know that you have.    I know that God is proud of our work - given for someone else - and he knows about the great talents - He gave them to us so our work could be whole....and I think He may even think, too, that I sound like Jennifer Hudson!

You are so appreciated.

You are the heart and soul of our parish family - our very talented parish family.

Hey, there -
I have this tree outside my bedroom window and I have grown to appreciate it so much because each morning when I open my eyes, I track what time of the year it is.  In the spring, the buds are starting to pop - in the summer, the lush green leaves provide shade for my condo - the fall colors are vivid and then the leaves fall and in the winter I think how sturdy the tree is to stand up to the winter weather and be ready to start the whole process over.

Our Habitat Build is like that tree - each branch has a different function as we "grow" from having just a foundation through to completion.  There is a truss branch, roofing branch, painting branch, caulking branch (my favorite), cabinet branch, flooring branch, landscaping branch, and so on.  And when we are done, so is the tree - the CTK Habitat Tree.

It's kind of like the vine and branches we heard about last weekend in Church.  God said "I am the vine - you are the branches" - Ya think He knew that there was a caulking branch, painting branch, roofing branch, etc? Hmmmmmm.....I think so, I think it is part of the Plan.  And last Saturday, again the story was fulfilled.

You are so appreciated.

Our Habitat volunteers are the heart and soul of the parish of Christ the King.

We thank you -

Just think for a minute - about what was going on in Niterrius' mind a few years ago...They didn't have a home, but she knew she would find a way to get one...That's Hope.

Then, she applied for Habitat and she just knew that she would be accepted into the program and a crew would come from somewhere and build a house - their house...That's Faith.

But, when y'all saw the info for our Habitat Build and contacted us, signed up and then showed  up, on a Saturday morning before 8:00 AM!!!!!! And y'all came to build - build a house - for someone who didn't have one - for someone you didn't even know...that's Love.

God can't be everywhere all the time, and so he sends people in his place...he sent y'all to Niterrius and her family.  And, sometimes, we're the only God some people will ever see.  But, it works - they believe.

Saturday AM when y'all were struggling to wake up in the parking deck - God smiled and he whispered -
Faith, Hope and Love....and the greatest of these is Love.

You are so appreciated.

You ARE the heart and soul of our parish and we thank you.

Saying thanks to the 3rd Saturday CTK Habitat crew

Hey, there -

I don't know about y'all, but when Father gave us the send off prayer on Saturday, I could help but think of the similarities between what he said and what we were doing.  Remember, he said that when Mary and Joseph hit Bethlehem, they didn't have a place to lay down - no home and then Jesus had to be born in a borrowed home - a manger.

And before Habitat, Niterrius, Marquisha, Marquez and Queen-Nyahmi didn't have a place to lay their heads either - at least no where they could call their own.  Mary and Joseph went to the Innkeeper - Niterrius came to us.  The Innkeeper sent Mary and Joseph to the manger - y'all opened up your hearts and gave your talents and ever so precious time and now, our family is well on their way to having their first home.

Kind of like Christmas in April - know what I mean?

I can't say it enough - you are the heart and soul of our ministry and this parish -

We so appreciate you!

Hats off to the Second Saturday crew

Hey -
Remember the story about the two groups of people who reached the pearly gates, and one group was lead to the "exit" door and the other through the gates?  The group that was escorted to the "exit" said - "wait what just happened here?".  And God said - you know, when I was hungry, you didn't feed me and when I was thirsty, you didn't give me anything to drink and when I needed shelter, you didn't help.  And they said "when did you ask and we didn't help?"  Well, the other group (the ones headed through the pearly gates) all had paint on their hands, and caulk in their fingernails and CTK Habitat waivers in their pockets.  And God smiled at them and said "You were there for the least of my children and I bet you didn't even know it"....and y'all were saying "let's go back again next week".

You have given for the least of your brothers - you done good.  And God is smiling....

Thank you for being the heart and soul of our parish - thank you for lifting up our family when they are so close to realizing their goal of having their first home - thank you for your time and talent.

You are so appreciated.....

Sometimes words aren't enough

Hi -
What's that Old Skool tune?  "Everybody's working for the weekend"?  Don't know about you, but I cannot wait for the weekend - its the time to get errands done, catch up on those house/yard activitites, stay out with friends and oh yeah, sleep in.  So, it is always so moving for me to arrive at the Cathedral parking deck - sun not even up yet, and the cars start rolling in with people who aren't sleeping in and are headed to help a family that they don't even know.

It's like that gospel story that Jesus is in the temple, reads the scripture, rolls it up and says "today this scripture has come to be".  That's how I feel when I see y'all leaving your home and giving of your time and talent (wink, wink) to build a home for folks that don't have one.

So, thank you for that great feeling I have when y'all leave the parking deck - thanks for giving of your time and talent - and just plain - thanks.

You are so much part of the heart and soul of our parish.

Wishing you the happiest and most blessed of Easters!
